General Info

Cefoprox® Dry Syrup is an oral antibiotic for pediatric use in patients with upper and lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin and skin structure infections. Cefoprox® Dry Syrup is not effective against viruses and fungi.

Cefoprox® Dry Syrup
Active Ingredient

Cefpodoxime.

Description

Cefoprox® Dry Syrup manufacturer is Cipla. Cefoprox® Dry Syrup has a tangy orange flavor. The syrup comprises an active ingredient Cefpodoxime Proxetil, an extended-spectrum and semisynthetic antibiotic of the Cephalosporin class (3rd generation).

Indications:

- upper respiratory tract infections (acute otitis media (AOM), pharyngitis and/or tonsillitis; acute bacterial sinusitis);

- lower respiratory tract infections (chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia (CAP));

- uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTIs) like cystitis;

- uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA), or Streptococcus pyogenes (group A beta-hemolytic streptococci).

MOA (mechanism of action):

Cefpodoxime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis following binding to proteins (PBPs). This results in the rupture of cell wall (peptidoglycan) biosynthesis, which leads to bacterial cell death. Cefpodoxime has demonstrated efficacy against Moraxella catarrhalis, Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli (beta-lactamase- negative strains), Klebsiella spp., Serratia spp., Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, Providencia spp., and Salmonella spp.

Dosage
